The city's sandbox environment inspires the same kind of creative freedom that players find in games like Grand Theft Auto. What players can do is really only limited by what they can think of. Streets of Rogue is an incredibly chaotic and challenging roguelike that brings a unique sandbox spin to the genre. If the in-game characters aren't varied enough, players can create their own using any unlocked abilities and items that they may have.
These characters are all incredibly unique and make each run of the game feel different. Streets of Rogue also has a comedic element that's very apparent in its cast of characters. Comedians, wrestlers, shapeshifters and investment brokers can all be acquired by completing certain in-game conditions. Every third stage adds to the chaos by adding some sort of modifier to the level, such as a lockdown that causes police to attack the player on sight or a strange ooze that will slowly flood the entire level. Levels can quickly descend into chaos with NPCs brawling the streets in a total free-for-all. The most insanely varied game ever made.Stealth is always an option in Streets of Rogue but the game's similarity to the Grand Theft Auto series really comes to light when players choose the more violent approach to completing missions.
